  1. Natural-ly tasteless?

    Treated myself to a little treat earlier this afternoon. With exams not quite over with the cravings for some foodies was just too strong to resist. I had been meaning to check out the Natural Kensington Bakery for sometime now, the notion of it being a completely healthy bakery that offers a plethora of gluten-free or dairy-free baked goods was far too temping to pass up! So I ventured in after a wee bit of jay-walking back and forth trying to find the place.

    I have to say. I didn't have high expectations, considering they had to use spelt instead of flour, eliminate the use of eggs in many recipes and they didn't use much sugar or use sugar substitues to bake their goods. Such substitutions really hinder the taste of their products. However after some careful deliberation I realized that there was no way for me to try something and get a good feel of the bakery. Therefore I asked the cashier behind the counter to suggest something for me. Therefore I can get a really good view of some yummy and healthy choices that can leave me with a good impression of the place. I really wanted to like it there.

    I asked for something sweet, preferably chocolate that was on the healthier side of things (if you can consider.. wanting healthy in a dessert). She suggested this chocolate cookies and with her suggestion I bought one of the chocolate chip cookies made with spelt. She had said that it was the "chewier" of the chocolate cookies. I paid and left with a smile on my face.

    The moment I left I opened up my little package of health-ish treat and took a bite! ... It was like biting into a thick stale piece of cocoa flavoured bread. Extremely stale piece too. It was pretty damn hard! I couldn't imagine what the less-chewier cookies would be like! Would they break your teeth? However one bite after another, I did come to appreciate one thing. It didn't leave any bad after tastes and after a couple more bites it actually didn't taste too bad. I would never consider suggesting it to something who has to fulfill a major sweet tooth. However if you were just wanting something akin to chocolate, something healthy, gluten-free, sugar-free and all around makes you feel less guilty about snacking on a dessert. Be my guest. Go right on ahead!

    Went to Greg's Ice Cream today with some friends, and boy oh boy. Hello coconut ice cream! Where have you been all my life? Delicious is the only way I can sum that bad boy up. However... I made the mistake of overloading and being greedy. I got crushed oreo cookies as a topping. Which should not have been done simply because the taste overshadowed the coconut ice cream, what with its sweeter filling and crunchy texture I wasn't able to fully appreciate the beauty of the ice cream. Well... I will just have to experience the ice cream one more time to make a proper judgement!

    A couple of days I went out with some friends for Belgian waffles. Yum? Definitely! I got the chocolate dipped waffles with cookies and cream ice cream. Most of my friends got a waffle with some variation of ice cream and banana and/or strawberries. Hello, love. I adore waffles and making them chocolate dipped is only the .. dipping on the cake? Either way its beautiful and my sugar monster thanked me.

    I have a deep infatuation with Japanese Purple Heart Yams. They are delicious. Did you know that? They are purple on the outside AND the inside! Normal purple yams are ah-mazing too. I love them steamed and baked. Just the perfect side dish instead of rice or noodles. Most people seem to cringe when they see me eat this lifeless food-rendition of Barney, but its delicious and those people are too ignorant. Oh well, they are missing out on a beauty of life! You must try!

    Wow... three consecutive nights of eating dinner out. Goodbye waistline, our encounter was nice if albiet too brief. I really don't eat out this often. This frenzy surprises me as much as it does you. I promise. Tonight. Gamjatang was on the menu, I went with my mom out to a little Korean restaurant near us and feasted on the dish that is known in english as Pork Bone Soup. Most of you may find the concept absolutely revolving or disgusting. And I pity you. Sincerely I do.

    It is one of the most hearty, fulfilling and spice filled dishes one can have. When made with expertise it can play with the taste buds like no other, the feeling I get when get when eating pork bone soup is akin to any type of Thai coconut curry. It makes me feel extremely content with life while eating and that is an impressive feat. Plus its a great bonus that its an extremely inexpensive meal, often costing the same as dishes at a fast food place. Just with a bundle more nutrients, its made with real food!

    I also highly enjoy all the little dishes they bring out accompanying the main course, all the kimchi, fried tofu, radishes, bean sprouts, and depending on where you went other little dishes like tonight's restaurant which came with: cooked seaweed, glass noodles and mushrooms. Score!

    All in all, I am stuffed.
    And boy... I can't eat anymore.

  7. Last night we once again went downtown to seek for pleasure in the form of.. food! I went to watch Limitless with K2 and some friends, it was a great movie. Definitely worth the watch! Afterwards we walked about downtown Toronto to see what would peak our tastebuds' interest.

    We chose the Korean Grill House since it was already very late the Night-Owl menu was available for us which was the cherry on the cake! Going to the Korean Grill House seem to require a large group, the smaller the group the more tedious and boring the process seems. I had gone with four other people so conversation filled the void that cooking our own food created. It was a good routine that we had set up, most of us just threw everything on the grill and someone always ended up flipping it back and forth. Whatever we ended up making was up for grabs for everybody.

    The beef was extra delicious that night, the marinade was much tastier than I had ever tasted it. The squid was very... rubber. The fish lacked flavour although was not too bad. The worst had to have been the chicken. Oh lordy the chicken. Not only was it almost all in stringed small pieces which made it difficult to cook, there was so much fat and SKIN! I am almost never picky with food. I love all food, albiet not equally, I do like consume all types of food. However, I have the least amount of positive emotions to chicken that is not fried and crispy. There's no way I could hurt that chicken's feelings because last night that chicken had some thick skin. My friends still ate it though, I picked my way through it more so out of the notion that it is food, I must eat. Healthy mindset, yes? Definitely.

    For once we didn't get desserts, however because our sugar monsters were not satisfied K2 and I both wanted chocolate. Oh the joys of being a woman (that's not true, but I'd like to blame it on the x x x x x x-chromosome! Hehe. We ended up stopping at a local 7-11 and grabbed some chocolate bars. Not as good as a bona-fide dessert, but sugar tooth satisfied. Delicious. By the way, have you ever had a Bounty chocolate bar? It's fake coconuts made slightly thick and very chewy, wrapped in a layer of gorgeous chocolate. It. Is. Beautiful. Sometimes the simple pleasures in life are worth so much more than they cost!

    It was a good, loooong night with a lot of walking.
    And boy... I could eat!

    Last night K2 (my going-out-to-eat friend whom will to refered to as K2 from now on) and I went to venture for Thai food after my classes finished for the day. I had looked up on blogto.com the day before to find a good and affordable Thai restaurant for us to go to. Golden Thai had received an ample amount of positive reviews, so why not?

    And boy am I glad we went! I had gotten the Green Curry Beef made with Coconut Milk (hello beautiful!) as well as a side of sticky rice since coconut rice would be redundant considering my dish was made with coconut milk. K2 had gotten the Golden Thai Pork and a size of sticky rice with peanut sauce (yum!). Both dishes were amazing (since I got to sample some of her pork). The only thing I was slightly disappointed with was the fact that even though I had gotten Green Curry, supposedly the most spicy level of Thai curry, it just wasn't spicy enough! I could barely tasted the spices and only when I was nearing the end of my meal did I even remember that I had gotten a spicy dish! But all in all it still tasted beautiful to my taste buds.

    We didn't get any appetizers or desserts because afterwards we made our way to Cafe Crepe. Had we not planned to go there afterwards we definitely would have gotten an appetizer in the beginning and a dessert afterwards. I was thinking something along the lines of the Pho Pia Sod: Cool Rolls for appetizer and some Rum Fried Bananas for dessert. Hello! Rum. Fried. Bananas. Sounds magical no? It does to me!

    Once we got to Cafe Crepe and the sugar craving was to be sated we both enthusiastically studied the menu. We've both been to the Cafe Crepe before but neither of us had sat in a booth nor gotten any of the specialized crepes, so you know this was exciting. She got a Nutella and strawberry crepe and I had gotten a dark chocolate and coconut crepe. Which is two of my most favourite toppings for... any desserts! Tell me tell you, it was glorious for my palette. Hallelujah!

    Oh, it was a good day.
    And boy... I could eat!

  9. I've always had a fierce love with food. However recently I've discovered that my feelings with food have delved deeper into an enthusiastic passion of all things food related! Particularly with restaurants, as I often can't cook at home. With the constraints of time and the unavailable necessary equipment. However that may change very soon and that change can lead to a dramatic adjustment to my life.

    However... for now. I will blog about food, restaurants, and all things that make my taste buds sing.
